Before you book
Immersion heaters are electrical as well as plumbing items. We review what the job involves and confirm the scope and price before booking, and any specialist work is arranged accordingly. If the cylinder itself is leaking or very old, replacement may be better value: see hot water cylinder replacement.
Safety
Switch the immersion heater off at the isolator before anything else, and never drain or open a cylinder while it is hot. Unvented cylinders contain safety equipment and need a suitably qualified engineer: see unvented cylinders.
Cylinder replacement prices
If the cylinder needs replacing, fixed, fully installed prices start from £1,639 for a direct unvented cylinder and £1,769 for an indirect one. See your cylinder price online.
Common questions
How do I know if my immersion heater has failed?
Typical signs are no hot water, lukewarm water or a heater that trips the electrics. A check confirms whether it is the element, the thermostat or something else.
Is it worth repairing an old cylinder?
If the cylinder is leaking or corroded, replacing it is usually better than replacing only the heater. We can advise.
