Gas fire disconnection.

Removing or replacing a gas fire, or no longer using it? We arrange disconnection and capping of the gas supply by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Gas pipe on a kitchen wall sealed with a cap where a cooker has been disconnected and removed

What disconnection means

Disconnecting a gas fire means isolating the gas supply to it, removing the fire from the supply and sealing the pipe with a proper cap, then checking the capped pipework. Gas work is done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Do not disconnect a gas fire yourself.

We disconnect and cap the supply. We do not supply or fit gas fires. If you want a new fire, you will need a separate fitter for that work.

Send these details

  • The full postcode and whether the property is a house, flat or rented.
  • The type of fire if you know it, such as a flame-effect fire in a fireplace or a wall-mounted fire, and a photo of the fire and the fireplace.
  • Whether the fire is being removed, replaced or only taken out of use.
  • Whether a landlord or freeholder has agreed the work, and who will give access.
  • The date you need the work done by, if there is one.

What is and is not included

Removing the fire itself, taking out a hearth or surround, sealing a chimney or making good decorative finishes are separate jobs. Tell us what you need so the scope is clear in writing. Tell us about lifting, stairs and access too.

Other gas appliances in the property, such as the boiler and cooker, are not checked by a disconnection. If you are a landlord, they still need their annual gas safety check.

Price and booking

The price depends on the fire, the pipework and the access, so we review your details and confirm the scope and price before you pay.

Once you have paid, your booking is confirmed.

A two-hour arrival window can be confirmed on the day.

For a gas cooker, hob or oven, see appliance disconnection.
