Plumber cost in London
How plumbing jobs are priced, what pushes the price up or down, and the prices we publish.

How plumbers charge
Plumbing is priced in three common ways: a fixed price for a defined job, an hourly or day rate, or a diagnostic visit followed by a quote for the repair. A fixed price is easiest to compare. An hourly rate depends on how long the job takes, which is hard to know in advance.
What changes the price
- The job: a tap swap is not a leak behind a wall
- Access to the pipework and the property: parking, stairs, flats
- Parts and fittings, and who supplies them
- Whether the work is planned or urgent
- Extra work found once the job is opened up
Prices we publish
- Repair diagnosis: £92.50 for the first 45 minutes
- Washing machine or dishwasher installation: £92.50 up to 45 minutes plus materials, in selected postcodes
- Gas hob installation: from £164.50
- Paid parking: £10 per hour where needed; key collection £15
See the price and services list. Other plumbing jobs are priced after we see the details and photos.
How to get an accurate price
- Describe the problem and send photos
- Give the full postcode and access details
- Say whether you will supply the fittings
- Ask what is and is not included, and whether more work could be needed
We review the job, location and price before sending a quote or invoice for advance payment. See how to choose a plumber.
Gas and heating work
Boiler work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Boiler replacement, gas safety checks and servicing have their own prices: see boiler installation cost and gas safety certificates.
Common questions
How much does a plumber cost per hour in London?
It varies by company and job, so we publish job prices instead of an hourly rate. See the price list above.
Is there a call-out charge?
For repairs we charge a diagnostic visit of £92.50 for the first 45 minutes, and explain any further work and price before it goes ahead.
