How to get a gas safety certificate

Getting a gas safety certificate takes one visit. This is the process, what to have ready and what it costs with Heating People in East and North London.

Step by step

  1. Use a Gas Safe registered engineer. Only they can legally check gas appliances for a safety record. Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card.
  2. List every gas appliance. Boiler, hob, oven, cooker and any other gas appliance the landlord provides, plus the property address and postcode.
  3. Book and pay. We review the job, send the price, and your booking is confirmed once payment has been received.
  4. Give access. Someone needs to be there, or the key arrangements agreed, on the day. A two-hour arrival window can be confirmed on the day.
  5. Receive the record. A digital record is provided on the day the checks are completed.

Common questions

Can I get a gas safety certificate online?

You can book and pay online. The check itself has to be done in person by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and the digital record follows on the day.

How quickly can I get one?

It depends on engineer availability. Book online, or call 0800 118 2128 to check dates, especially if a tenancy start date is close.

What if the check finds a fault?

The engineer explains the safety action needed. Repairs are priced and agreed separately.
