What to expect on boiler installation day
A practical guide to preparing for your installation, the work itself and the handover.
Before the date is agreed
The proposed boiler, installation scope, price, access and contracting business should be confirmed in writing. An online enquiry is the starting point; answers, photos and an assessment where required help establish the work. The installer confirms the duration and any interruption to heating or hot water.
Prepare the property
- Clear a safe route and working area without moving heavy appliances or disturbing fittings.
- Tell us about parking restrictions, stairs, lifts, shared entrances and building-management permissions.
- Arrange an authorised adult or agreed keyholder for access and the handover. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Ask how long the gas, water, electricity, heating or hot water may be unavailable and plan around the agreed interruption.
During the work
The installer checks the agreed arrangement, protects the relevant work areas and removes or disconnects equipment within the quoted scope. The new boiler, flue, connections and controls are installed and the system is commissioned and checked.
System cleaning, a filter, inhibitor, controls, old-boiler disposal and making good must be clearly described in the quote. Cleaning requirements depend on the installation and system condition; a full powerflush is not a universal promise.
If an unforeseen issue changes the scope, ask for the explanation and proposed variation before authorising further work. A simple replacement and a relocation or system conversion can have very different timescales.
At handover
- Ask for a demonstration of the boiler and controls and the correct user instructions.
- Confirm the commissioning records, applicable compliance documents and warranty-registration arrangements.
- Check who to contact about installation workmanship and manufacturer faults.
- Confirm any remaining agreed work, documents or follow-up arrangements.
