Boiler aftercare, handover and warranty

Know which documents to keep, how to arrange servicing and who to contact if your new installation develops a problem.

Keep your handover pack together

  • The agreed quote and invoice, identifying the business responsible for the installation.
  • Boiler make, model and serial number, plus the user instructions.
  • Commissioning and Benchmark documentation where applicable.
  • Building Regulations compliance documentation where required. Confirm with the installer how and when it will be supplied.
  • Manufacturer warranty or guarantee details, registration confirmation, and any written workmanship cover.

Manufacturer cover and workmanship cover are different

Manufacturer cover relates to the boiler and is subject to the selected model, package and manufacturer terms. Workmanship cover relates to installation work and is provided on the terms of the contracting installer. Your written quote and handover documents should identify the provider, length, conditions and how to make a claim.

Before accepting the quote, ask who will register the manufacturer cover and confirm receipt of that registration after installation. Contact us if the agreed documents are missing.

Look after the installation

Follow the user instructions and the manufacturer’s servicing requirements. Arrange servicing in time and keep the service records. Do not assume that a reminder will arrive or that a service automatically extends or renews warranty cover.

At handover, ask for a demonstration of the normal heating and hot water controls. If pressure repeatedly drops, a leak appears or a fault returns, report it rather than repeatedly resetting or topping up the system. Do not remove the boiler casing or adjust gas components.

Reporting a problem

Contact Heating People with the job reference, address, boiler model and a description of the fault. A photo of the display can help if it is safe to take one. We can help identify the appropriate installer or manufacturer route; attendance, cover and any charge depend on the fault and the relevant terms.

If a partner installer contracted directly with you, their invoice and written terms identify the installation provider. Keep these available when requesting help.
